Abstracts and Animals

by Jacquie Gouveia

Jacquie Gouveia's paintings are experiments in composition and application. Some like Worth the Wait are fast rectilinear maps while the strokes are swaths of color sometimes saturated, sometimes grayed. Others are moodily evocative of landscape at dawn or dusk, or in summer or winter. She was recently named by Art Business News as one of the top emerging artists of 2012.

Big Friendly Giant
by Ashley Freeland

Ashley Freeland is an emerging artist recently featured in the online art magazine, Abstraks. The texture of animal hair and their engaging expressions are a particular pursuit for Freeland. This dog, which lives in Singapore, belongs to a friend of the artist. While for most a dead cockroach would repulse, it is a mere curiosity in the simple mind of a dog.
