A Place for Miracles by Kirsten Borror 2012 Watercolor 4x6 |
The Sea of Galilee (also called the Bahr Tubariya, Ginnosar, Gennesaret, Gennesar, Lake Tiberias, Kinneret, or Chinneroth) lies 700 feet below sea level.
Actually it's a fresh water, river-fed and spring-fed lake historically filled with lots of fish. Jesus used this spot on the earth as a classroom. He walked on its water, calmed its storm, fed 5,000 with loaves and fishes, recruited four of the disciples from their fishing boats here, preached the Sermon on the Mount overlooking it, sat in Peter's boat and taught the people on shore, instructed the disciples on two occasions where to put their nets to gather an extravagant number of fish, and ate fish with some of the disciples here after the resurrection.
And he told the disciples to cross it. Cross the sea, cross to the other side of the lake, embark, head out, voyage beyond. It was an act of obedience, and an act of faith; and it got a bit scary in the middle when the wind and the waves raged! Are you ready, thrill-seekers, to set sail?
