The Glad Artist

How happy I am to have found the work of Aminah Robinson, a living artist who was at the Columbus College of Art and Design the same time as my parents! Her work pours out of a marriage of formal schooling in color, shape, line and an expressionist's hand in choice of materials, format, and surface texture.

The show at the Columbus Museum of Art featured never before seen works such as My Lord, What a Morning, inspired by the Sunday morning sounds of African American spirituals she heard in the neighborhood from churches and radios.  Her visualizations are a glad song that tenderly render real people, places, experiences.  The 6 foot work that I keep coming back to is John T.
