bookings essential

Local Antarctica enthusiast, Charles Lindall, will talk about the historic expedition to Antarctica undertaken and led by Sir Douglas Mawson from 1911 to 1914 as The Australasian Antarctic Expedition. 2011 is the centenary of this expedition and this will generate a lot of interest in this subject and will be brought to life by Charles, who will show videos and slide shows to illustrate
his talk.

Charles Lindall has built a 1/30th scale model of Mawson’s Hut as it was in 2005 when he visited it and a 1/3rd scale model of a ‘nansen’ type polar sledge, and these will be on display at the
library during the event on 22nd June.

The Mawson’s Huts Foundation will be involved in the event as well, to the extent that their publications will be available and sales will help to raise funds for the building this year of a full size replica of the Huts on the waterfront in Hobart. Charles’ interest in Mawson, his Huts and expeditions is intense and his knowledgeable talk on these subjects is one not to be missed.
